As a certified distributor of HP, VXL, Samsung and Dell Wyse Thin Clients, Getech Distribution is the leading distributor for Thin Client Desktop Devices and associated products in the UK. Getech works with most of the leading resellers throughout the country, wrapping its superior value-added services solutions and provides and helps all of its vendor partners to dramatically grow their market share.
“Nexenta is looking forward to working with Getech as we take Software Defined Storage technology mainstream in the UK market. We want to disrupt the MESS (massively expensive storage systems) providers that are currently holding storage users hostage,” states Tarkan Maner, Chairman and CEO at Nexenta. “With data volumes growing at record rates and austerity biting hard, customers are looking for innovative and cost effective approaches to storage and data management.”
Guy Watts, Managing Director, Getech Ltd, said: “Nexenta’s SDS solution offers an exciting opportunity for us in the storage arena. Our goal is to disrupt the stranglehold that the likes of NetApp and EMC have on the market. After meeting and speaking to a number of key resellers and customers it is clear the market is keen to explore new alternatives to the big hardware storage providers. The software-defined world offers a real alternative and Nexenta’s storage is underpinning the data centre of the future. As with all the solutions we supply, Getech will be offering a fully certified technical support team to support the roll out of Nexenta, providing a total supply and support service.”

Oscar-Winning Production Company Turns to Nexenta to Manage Massive Data Growth
Economics and Innovation Benefits Lead Framestore to Software Defined Storage Leader
London, UK and Santa Clara, CA, USA, January 22, 2014 – Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader in Software Defined Storage (SDS) (#softwaredefinedstorage) solutions, today announced that Framestore, an Oscar-winning visual effects company for film and advertising, has selected Nexenta to manage its multi-petabyte data storage needs.
In a world where a picture can be worth millions of dollars, Framestore is known for creating extraordinary images and visual effects for movie houses around the world. Established in 1995, it has locations in London, New York, Montreal and Los Angeles. Recent projects include movie blockbusters Gravity and Skyfall, as well as global advertising campaigns for Audi and Pepsi, and TV shows including Doctor Who.
Managing petabytes of mission-critical data is a challenge, particularly in this creative and fast-paced global business environment. Without access to this data, Framestore wouldn't be able to meet the production demands of the media and entertainment industry. The IT team at Framestore needed a flexible, scalable, reliable, enterprise storage system to manage its massive data growth, enhance its disaster recovery capabilities and ultimately to maintain its reputation as a leader in visual effects.
Framestore chose Nexenta's Software Defined Storage solution over other storage solutions to create an innovative storage infrastructure. Working with its technology partner Dell to provide the hardware, and utilizing the open-source ZFS operating system, Framestore selected Nexenta for its combination of technical acumen and an economic product offering.
"Nexenta is a progressive and forward thinking company with a team of highly technical and knowledgeable engineers, who integrated well with the Framestore technology team and have been a pleasure to work with," said Steve MacPherson, CTO, Framestore. "I believe Nexenta is on the crest of a wave, one that has a strong potential to disrupt the storage industry status quo. The coupling of affordable enterprise grade hardware, a strong and open ZFS base, and Nexenta software features provide us with great flexibility in how we design and deploy production storage. Nexenta provides that last critical software and support component that allows us to move everything forward and to re-architect our global storage strategy."
Tarkan Maner, CEO, Nexenta, said, "Our SDS offering is ideal for the entertainment industry. Unlike the Massively Expensive Storage Systems (MESS) provided by larger vendors who focus on hardware boxes and expensive 'rip and replace' models as users hit full capacity, Nexenta has the ability to keep scaling and growing. SDS is the future and Framestore is embracing it as a business-critical function in order to continue its huge success globally."
Nexenta and Daystrom Technologies Create Unrivaled Media Storage Solution for “The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint”
Software Defined Storage Integrates With Software Defined Systems to Meet Demanding Production Schedule
SANTA CLARA, California – January 6, 2014 - Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader of Software Defined Storage (SDS) (#softwaredefinedstorage) solutions, today announced that Daystrom Technologies has turned to the NexentaStor™ (#nexentastor) Software Defined Storage platform to complete the production archiving support of "The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint," recently funded on Kickstarter.
The famed director recently raised over $1.4 million in funding from 6,421 backers. With the upcoming demanding shooting schedule and relatively short time span (18 days), the challenge was to securely archive all original video and audio files based-on multiple formats with several copies kept on-set during the shooting.
With as much as 2.8TB of raw video shot each day, disk capacity needed to be added to Daystrom’s NexentaStor-based data store as shooting progressed. Nexenta's NexentaStor had been chosen to deploy a Network Attached Storage (NAS) because of its ability to easily and inexpensively add capacity when needed. In addition, NexentaStor plus LTO backups which utilized the Linear Tape File System (LTFS) delivered as close to a bulletproof media management system as Daystrom could get.
"Daystrom turned to Nexenta to provide a secure self-healing storage file and backup system immune from silent data corruption and simplified disk management though either a command line or graphical user interface which are standard features of the NexentaStor SAN/NAS storage operating system," according to Stephen B. Cohen, Daystrom’s Sr. Solutions Architect. "Nexenta provided a validated copy on write and checksum ensuring the highest levels of reliability and data integrity in both archiving and playback."
"The need for multiple data backups in the media and entertainment industry continues to grow as archival technology requirements behind movie-making becomes more stringent," said Tarkan Maner, Nexenta CEO. "Our technology helps this industry prevent potentially devastating losses from silent data corruption and preserves the creativity of the cast, camera crew, editors and post production team. Together, we are creating a safer storage environment for all businesses including media and entertainment."
