Data Dynamics and Nexenta Partner to Accelerate the transition to Software Defined Hybrid and Multi Clouds
Enterprises Improve Agility and Productivity with Joint Offering that Seamlessly Analyzes, Moves, Manages and Modernizes Data Systems
TEANECK, N.J. & SAN JOSE, CA – March 22, 2018 – Data Dynamics®(@DataDynamicsInc), a leader in intelligent file management and Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today announced a joint partnership that empowers enterprises to free themselves from legacy storage systems and efficiently modernize their data centers to software defined storage and cloud.
Today’s fast-paced businesses need scalability to keep up with the growth of data consumption and the rapid emergence of new applications. With data-growth outpacing the typical IT budget, businesses are increasingly adopting strategies that leverage open source, software-defined and cloud storage, which can be dynamically provisioned to match business priorities while removing vendor lock-in and reducing capital and operational costs.
StorageX from Data Dynamics helps customers store the data they have, tag the data for analytic review and movement, and determine the best fit and value for the analyzed data. Migrating data from outdated and expensive legacy storage platforms is commonly the immediate challenge that enterprises face.
Organizations are challenged with large amounts of unstructured data that has become isolated and difficult to move across incompatible platforms, and often require multiple IT resources and consultants in the upgrade process. Data Dynamics and Nexenta enable businesses to update their data center, embrace software defined storage and painlessly move their data from legacy storage systems with confidence.
As a pioneer in open source-driven software-defined storage solutions, Nexenta’s core technology enables organizations to run their businesses securely, flexibly, and cost effectively. It helps to deploy web-scale solutions which can run everyday business applications smoothly. In addition, Nexenta storage is expandable enough to respond to fast-changing technology trends from social media, mobility, ever-growing big data solutions, and the emerging Internet of Things paradigm.
“Nexenta is continuing its massive market disruption where legacy hardware storage companies had dominated the industry for the past 30+ years. We are delighted with our solid market growth via our tight customer and partner relations, deep IP innovation and unmatched operational excellence. We are delighted to partner with Data Dynamics in getting customers out of the old and into the new way of doing storage,” said, Tarkan Maner, CEO at Nexenta.
“Enterprises today view file management as a strategic initiative to facilitate business agility, but as content becomes richer and more dynamic, and software-defined storage continues to gain widespread adoption, companies struggle with identifying the appropriate workloads to transition and the best means of automating the workflow,” said Cuong Le, Senior Vice President Field Operations, Data Dynamics. “StorageX automates the lifecycle management of end user and application based unstructured data by providing a centralized dashboard with aggregate and drill down views of global footprints, tied to automated movement based on business requirements. This truly makes it a powerful and must have platform for all enterprise customers.”

NexentaEdge 2.0 Revolutionizes High-Performance and Reliable Multi-Protocol Services with Simple GUI-Based Management for Large Archives and Seamless Docker Datacenter Integration
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—May 3, 2017 — Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today introduced the latest version of its award-winning scale-out block, file, and object storage platform, NexentaEdge. Purpose-built for today’s leading enterprise IT environment with rapidly expanding application needs, NexentaEdge 2.0 is a flexible and future proof multi-service storage platform.
According to Gartner, by 2021 more than 80% of enterprise unstructured data will be stored in scale-out system and object storage systems in enterprise and cloud data centers, which is an increase from 30% today. * The newest release of NexentaEdge has a unique feature set to support this rapid market growth, including performance object storage and exceptional integration with Docker and OpenStack environments. In addition, Nexenta has rounded out their multi-service platform to include a shared namespace between file and object storage as well as container-converged capabilities to support next generation applications.
NexentaEdge 2.0 Product Enhancements Include:
- Multi-service scale-out platform delivering iSCSI block, NFS file and S3 and Swift object services
- Simple to manage web-based GUI for daily management and service provisioning
- Patent-pending Quick Erasure Coding technology, manage both active and cold object archives with storage speed and efficiency
- Superior data protection with cluster-wide inline deduplication, compression and unlimited snapshots/clones
- Scale-out platform for Docker Container-Converged infrastructure with seamless integration with Docker Universal Control Plane for single pane of glass management of containerized applications
- High performance, all-flash deployment profiles with support for SSD SATA, SAS and NVMe-based storage SSDs
- Shared namespace between File and Object Storage
“NexentaEdge scale-out block, file, and object storage delivers performance optimizations for all-flash and hybrid configurations, and is tightly integrated with both OpenStack cloud and Docker environments,” said Oscar Wahlberg, Director of Product Management at Nexenta. “With the introduction of NexentaEdge 2.0, features like Quick EC allow customers to build multi-petabyte, capacity-optimized object archives without sacrificing performance and use the same solution to create a container-converged storage infrastructure with tight integration and seamless management.”
High-performance object storage capabilities are one of the key differentiators of NexentaEdge in archive environments. This performance is powered by advanced data reduction technologies and further enhanced by the newly added feature, Quick Erasure Coding. NexentaEdge’s Quick Erasure Coding (Quick EC) technology reduces the storage overhead required to maintain the redundancy of data across servers, without affecting read or write performance. Quick EC eliminates the performance penalty usually associated with accessing objects in traditional erasure coded solutions and is especially beneficial for large capacity S3 object clusters.
NexentaEdge 2.0 also extends functionality to containerized applications with new Docker Engine volume plug-ins and tight integration with Docker Universal Control Plane (UCP). NexentaEdge enables complete integration into any Docker Enterprise Edition deployment and allows users to seamlessly deploy storage and application services as containers across servers that provide both storage and compute in a container-converged model.
Container Converged architecture can create an enterprise-class scale-out compute, network, and storage infrastructure powered by NexentaEdge and is ideal for consolidating applications and storage for maximum hardware utilization. With advanced data reduction and container awareness with multi-tenancy capabilities, it is simple to deploy, manage and scale your containerized applications with NexentaEdge 2.0.
Additionally, a feature-rich, web-based graphical user interface (GUI) is now available to all NexentaEdge customers, streamlining daily management and operations, and integrating directly with Docker Datacenter for seamless management of container storage.

This annual list recognizes technology suppliers that excel at powering, supporting and protecting the complex and demanding data centers on which today’s businesses rely.
CRN editors select companies for the Data Center 100 list on the basis of multiple criteria, including each company's overall impact on the market, its influence on the channel as a whole, and the types of technology and services it makes available to its partners.
In addition to recognizing technology suppliers for outstanding products and services, the Data Center 100 serves as a valuable guide for solution providers looking for best-in-class vendors providing data center infrastructure, data center management tools, software-defined data center technology and data center services.

Leading Global Cloud Service Provider Deploys Market-Leading Nexenta Open Software-Defined Storage Solutions on Western Digital All Flash Platform
Peak 10 Achieves 35% Lower TCO while Providing Higher Performance, Simplified Management, and Increased Agility
Santa Clara, CA - February 1, 2017- Nexenta (@Nexenta), the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today announced, in conjunction with the release of IDC’s Buyer Case Study, that Peak 10 (@Peak_Ten), a national IT infrastructure, connectivity and cloud service provider, selected the NexentaStor and Western Digital® InfiniFlash™ platform storage solution. This decision has enabled Peak 10 to future-proof their Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS) offerings and provide an economic, agile, and flexible solution to their customers.
With 16 datacenters in key US markets, Peak 10 provides thousands of enterprise customers with both production and disaster recovery services, expanding their cloud business at an impressive rate of 25 percent year over year. Peak 10’s Recovery Cloud delivers disaster recovery that supports a wide range of workloads and offers DRaaS for colocation customers using Peak 10 production workloads as well as those who need disaster recovery in the cloud.
As Peak 10 was refreshing their hardware, they looked to newer software-defined storage all-flash solutions to provide higher performance, greater efficiencies, lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and to simplify the management of their storage infrastructure. It was also crucial for Peak 10 to ensure that their storage supported their rapid growth while simultaneously offering their customers flexibility across a variety of workloads and ensuring that the SLAs related to performance and availability were met or exceeded.
After deploying over 2.5 petabytes of NexentaStor and the Western Digital InfiniFlash all-flash platform (AFP) solution, Peak 10 has accomplished the following:
- Dramatically increased storage performance and reduced latency to 1-2 milliseconds
- Greater scalability and enterprise-class data services, including improved datacenter ecosystem integration capabilities
- Reduced in rack space requirements by more than 90 percent and energy consumption by 75 percent
- 35 percent TCO reduction relative to their legacy storage
“With the all-flash NexentaStor and InfiniFlash deployment, we’ve seen a number of performance, ease-of use, and scalability benefits,” said Chad Buzzard, Director of Cloud Infrastructure at Peak 10. “Many of our customers regularly perform DR tests, and depending on exactly what a customer was testing, concerns around disk performance could arise. Since switching to software-defined storage on flash with lower latencies and higher throughput, those concerns have virtually disappeared."
“Peak 10’s experience with both All-Flash Appliances and Software-Defined Storage is being replicated across many enterprises and cloud providers alike,” said Eric Burgener, Research Director, Storage, IDC. “AFAs are clearly the future of primary storage, and products like InfiniFlash - when running on enterprise-class unified storage software platforms like NexentaStor - are bringing the benefits of flash to additional workload types, such as DR, that have traditionally been considered secondary."
" Software-Defined Storage on all-flash is breaking down storage economic barriers and is enabling our customers to take flash to workloads they would never have considered in the past " said Tarkan Maner, Chairman and CEO, Nexenta. "At Nexenta, we combine performance, cost-optimization, and scalability to deliver storage that provides simplicity and flexibility with a rich enterprise feature set to our customers, such as Peak 10, so that they can deliver superior solutions and service to their own customers.”
“Cloud service providers like Peak 10 must depend on the ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and agile storage infrastructures for their customers,” said Gary Lyng, senior director of marketing, Data Center Systems business unit, Western Digital. “Data is critical to the success of both Peak 10 and to their customers as they depend on it to drive business and deliver value. We are pleased that they selected our award-winning InfiniFlash platform and the NexentaStor SDS solution to optimize their infrastructure and offerings.”
For more detailed information on Peak 10’s deployment, read the IDC’s Buyer Case Study titled, “Cloud Provider Peak 10 Deploys Nexenta to Improve Efficiency and Performance While Lowering Cost” here: http://www.nexenta.com/IDCPeak10

Leading Merchandise Optimization Software Company Realizes $120K in Savings via Nexenta Open Software-Defined Storage Solutions
Revionics Achieves Rapid Scalability to Meet Growing Business Needs and Support Retail Customers Worldwide
SANTA CLARA, Calif.—December 12, 2016— Nexenta (@Nexenta),the global leader in Open Source-driven Software-Defined Storage (OpenSDS), today announced that Revionics, a proven leader in end-to-end merchandise optimization solutions, leveraged NexentaStor to achieve rapid scalability at a lower total cost of ownership (TCO)to support their growing customer base.
Revionics’ customer base includes leading retailers like Dick’s Sporting Goods, Michael’s Stores and Cabela’s, which require the support of robust systems for their price, promotion and markdown optimization capabilities delivered via SaaS, using science-based predictive analytics. Revionics was traditionally a storage attached network (SAN) vendor shop, relying on various storage solutions to support customer data.Revionics wanted a longer-term solution that could scale robustly to keep pace with the growth of both their customer base and in data volumes from existing customers. Revionics lookedforalternative storage solutions that scale on a shelf-by-shelf and head-by-head basis, remove the required minimum buy-in cost of a traditional SAN purchase, and deliver a seamless transition that maintains performance levels and reduces TCO.
Sunny Nair, VP of Information Technology (IT) at Revionics, was familiar with Nexenta, andhe also evaluated other software-defined storage (SDS) solutions from established vendors.Revionics selected Nexenta because of its maturity in the SDS space; an estimated drastically lower TCO; and increased performance with less requiredconfiguration. Revionicsinitially deployed NexentaStor to support an additional 20-30 TB of customer data by simply purchasing and adding a Nexenta shelf to their existing system. Subsequently, Revionicstransitioned to solid state disk (SSD) and purchased two more Nexenta storage units for ultra-high performance.
“The IOPs have been phenomenal,” saidNair. “We didn’t need to buy one of the high-end SSD systems because Nexenta was experimenting with SSD as well; their engineering team was instrumental in helping us build out our SSD.”
Revionics realized immediate benefits from their NexentaStor integration, achieving unmatched performance levels at scale and a calculated $120K in savings, all without any transition time or inconvenience to their IT team. Revionics’ customers are also realizing benefits of the Nexenta integration. NexentaStor allows the Revionics IT team to turn up the performance, as needed, when configuring customer systems and to remain competitive in pricing, thanks in part to the cost savings.
“If we hadn’t selected Nexenta, with the same $135K we spent, we would have only been able to buy half the storage, which would have potentially diminished our business scalability,” said Nair.
“As complex technologies such as SaaS and predictive analytics continue to advance, companies are forced to meet the demands of unprecedented data growth, which legacy storage solutions cannot support,” said Tarkan Maner, Chairman and CEO of Nexenta. “We worked with the Revionics team to configure a system that could support their customers’ robust systems with the flexibility to scale as their data and customer volumes continue to grow.”
